How is energy conserved in a transformer?

Nature does not provide a greater or smaller voltage without a loss/gain somewhere else to conserve energy. What other electrical quantity is changed to conserve energy? (Hint I was given: recall electrical work = voltage x charge = voltage x current x time.)
