Is it possible to watch cable on a tv if it has no cable hook up?

i just got a tv and it fell and the cable thing snapped off the back and i cant fix it. i was wondering if i could still watch tv on it if i hooked it up through my vcr. i tried to hook it up though and i cant get it to work, which doesnt mean there isnt a way it just means im not smart enuf to fig it out. can someone please help me?
