think about it. It was a huge project that employed huge numbers of men. Creating jobs meant boosting the economy and that helps pull out of a depression. The benefits, aside from the fact that thousands of men were removed from the unemployment rolls, didn't need to claim welfare, were able to spend enough money to support the growth of new industry, was that the country gained a huge hydro-electric generating station.
