How do I get salt stains out of dark brown suede boots?

I recently bought a pair of dark brown suede boots. Prior to wearing them I sprayed them with a boot protector which is supposed to repel stains and water, however, this do not seem to be working. In the location that I live, they use salt on the roads and sidewalks to melt the snow and ice. My boots recently got wet and when they dried very visible lines of salt were present. It looks like I marked my boots with chalk. Just wondering what is the best way to get rid of this...
