Where was the pion in the movie, the Pion of christ?

It left me with no feelings, as I was in shock from all the violence being shown. Is seemed to reinforce the link between religion and violence Why would a love God ever, ever, demand, pain and death = Love? Do the religions of Jesus have feet of sand? Is this twisted? Or am I confused?
