High gas prices: Good thing??

I do agree that we are lucky to still have lower gas prices than most of the world and people who drive unnecessarily large vehicles should have to pay more. But the state of the economy in the US is so bad that it's a terrible time to be paying record high gas prices. More small businesses are closing shop than ever and home foreclosures are going through the roof. High gas prices just add to the problem.
